Oracle REST Data Services POST Error from escape character

I receive an error 400 Bad Request from ORDS from POST or PUT operation with JSON that contains a backslash to escape quotes and forward slashes, etc. using Java. How can I POST JSON with these types of characters?

Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.9 224.01.05

Database 11.2.0.3
