Oracle 'other' wait events

am looking at some wait events on a 10gR1 database. the wait event class 'other' is swamping the system.
from Oracle documentation

Other

Waits which should not typically occur on a system (for example, 'wait for EMON to spawn')

how can I investigate these more thoroughly?
