Oracle Managed Files (OMF)

MaryYMay 30 2017 — edited Jun 1 2017

Hello all,

I've always been pretty comfortable with manually creating and managing Oracle data, redo, ctl, archive log files etc.  Though I have started using OMF, I am wondering though what you guys tend to do in production environments (RAC and non-RAC) at this point.

  • Do you use OMF for all your new databases? Why or why not?
  • Are there any performance hits in using OMF?
  • Are they any gotchuas or special considerations in using OMF?
  • Do you find it harder to move datafiles when using OMF (example: from an old SAN to a new SAN)?

Thanks for your feedback on this.

Mary
