Oracle Linux on Sparc

Billy VerreynneJan 9 2013 — edited Jan 9 2013
Larry announced a while back (Sparc system launch in 2010) the possibility of Oracle (Enterprise) Linux being available on Sparc.

Anything happening in this regard, or not?

I've been asked to look at running Linux on an old Sunfire v890 (<i>sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V890</i>). I've found a Debian 6.06 release for Sparc, but would like to run a RHEL-based distro (as we do on all our servers - the only Debian around here is Ubuntu on my office desktop).

Should I plod ahead with that Debian distro? Are there better distros for Sparc? Or is this idea of running Linux on V890 a terrible one? (Solaris is not an option due to cost implications that management consider unwarranted for using a mothballed server for some basic Oracle RDBMS development)

Comments and suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.
