We had a problem on our Oracle Linux servers which Oracle database is installed on them about receiving ARP on public network. The issue is handled by activating promiscuous mode on bond connection, but I want to know the root cause.
Each server has two NIC (4xPortts totally), one port of each NIC used for public network and each port has been connected to a Cisco 6800 switch. The ports are salves of bond for teaming as active-backup mode.
After some hours of reboot, each node lost connectivity even in layer-2 and there are no ARP packets receiving by bond connection, so bond connection doesn't reply to ARP packets and after a while, other nodes or applications cannot reach the server over the network.
But after enabling promiscuous mode on bond connection, server receives and replys ARP packets without problem.
Is there any issue after installing Oracle RAC and is there any recommendation about ARP and Oracle RAC on Oracle Linux to prevent this issue?
