oracle instant client on red hat 9

I have installed the client and compiled DBD::Oracle, however my test script dies at use DBD::Oracle with this error:

Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so' for module DBD::Oracle: /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.1/client/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1: symbol semtimedop, version GLIBC_2.3.3 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 229.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
