Oracle Instant Client Issue

526410Aug 1 2007 — edited Oct 26 2011
Hi all,

I have an issue where an application on a server running on Windows 2000 seems to have stopped working due to a connection driver issue. My investigation seems to point to the re-installation of Oracle Instant Client because the SQORA32.dll is not there. Full Oracle client is not installed and the target Oracle DB is 9i. The following link is one i am using for guidance but i need a few points clarified please.

http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/releasenotes/ODBC_IC_ReleaseNotes.html

I believe I need to uninstall the files relevant to SQORA32.dll and reinstall using Oracle Instant Client.

** Download **

I have downloaded the files and extracted them, keeping all the extracted folders as sub folders of a main folder, or must I put all the files contained within each extracted folder into the main folder?

** Uninstall **

Am I correct that I should uninstall the old oracle instant client first, and to do this I must run the file odbc_uninstall.exe?

What does it mean to reset any environment variables such as PATH and TNS_ADMIN etc?

** Install New **

How do you ‘deploy’ the Basic instant Client before installing the ODBC?

When adding the directory to the PATH environment variable, which PATH environment variable does the article mean?

The installation guide ask you to ‘Define the TNS_ADMIN to point the .ora files directory for Oracle Call Interface (OCI)?’ Can this be clarified please because i don't think there is a TNS_ADMIN file?

Thanks to all in advance. It is appreciated
