oracle IIS number of processes grows to big

174454Sep 13 2002
Oracle 8.1.6
NT 4.0
IIS 4
On a large server, 1.7 Gigs of Ram, 4 pentium processors.

Our little ASP application manages to exceed the number of permitted oracle processes (240) within a few hours, and then the application freezes. Note, you can still fire up SQL*plus connections.

There never seems to be more than 25 or so records in v$session. (but the number of records in v$process can exceed 200 as the web application grinds to a halt.

There is usually less than 50 users, The web pages time-out (properly) if there is no use after 15 minutes. There is nothing else running on the server.

The application ran fine for more than a year. This bad behaviour has shown up recently.

Thank you for your help
