ORACLE_HOME environment variable missing... 10G R2 on CentOS

470072Dec 1 2006 — edited Dec 1 2006
Hi all,
I installed Oracle Enterprise 10G R2 on CentOS. I'm doing this to basiscally learn Oracle and Linux. Nothing like trial by fire! After the install and later a reboot, I noticed that the environment Variables for Oracle are not set. I installed logged in as Oracle on the system following the instructions in:

http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley_10gdb_install.html

Also, in some of the online docs I've found it mentions the ORACLE_HOME should be "/oracle/bin" . I've noticed that the bin on my install with all the Oracle apps are in "/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_3/bin" . Is that a difference between 10GR2 and 10GR1?

Can anyone tell me where I went wrong? Or do you set the environment variables by hand and the install doesn't do it for you? If I can set them by hand, what are they and where should I place them?

Thanks,
Mike
