Isn't funny how life runs in circles. As I recall it was about 15-20 years ago when Java Script was viewed as evil and browser vendors (including its author, Netscape) started blocking it for a variety of reasons. These days, JS has returned and is everywhere and the days of blocking it are mostly behind us. How quickly we forget the past.
Regardless, today's topic of discussion in this space is REST (Representational State Transfer) web services, most often using JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) as the payload format of choice. REST is what makes so many web and mobile applications do what they do so well. It is also what's helping to allow developers to roll out new apps so quickly. Like it or not, REST will probably be resting here for awhile.
So what does it mean to you and your organization's Oracle Forms applications? If Oracle provided easier access to REST services from your Forms applications, what would be the most likely use case for your organization?
Oracle Forms and REST
We would use REST to access public services to performs simple tasks like address validation or shipment tracking.: 15
We would use REST to access our own private services that provide common business logic/rules..: 12
We would use REST to bypass the need for SqlNet connections to our Oracle database tables. We use ORDS.: 5
We would use REST to bypass the need for SqlNet connections and connect to non-Oracle datasources.: 0
We would not use REST.: 0
