Oracle Forms and Reports builder 12.2.1

Prathap SApr 20 2016 — edited May 4 2016

Hello,

Current Situation:

We currently have about 12 applications running on Oracle Forms 10gAS on linux machines. The Forms and Reports builder versions that we use is 10gR2. We currently have the forms and reports builder (just the builders alone) on Windows Servers on a Citrix farm. So, a developer would develop a form / report using the builders, then FTP the form / report to the linux 10gAS, compile the code there and move the executables (.fmx , .mmx etc.) to the application folder in the linux 10gAS.

Upgrade:

We are upgrading the forms platform from 10gAS to 12cR2. We thought of upgrading the builders as well along with the platform. With 12c, the forms and reports builders are part of the OFM installation as such and not standalone anymore (as it was with 10g). So, my questions are:

1. Do we really need to install the entire OFM suite on the Windows servers on Citrix (from where the developer will access the builders) as well as on the Linux Servers (from where the application will be launched)?

2. Should the developers be given access to remote into the linux server (Development Server only) and use the builders from there?

3. How is it done in your company?

I need your thoughts / inputs / suggestions

Thanks,

Prathap
