Oracle for Beginners?

After much debate with myself about what part of computers I truly wish to work with, I finally came to the conclusion that I want to work with databases.

That being said, the only database I have ever worked on is MS Access and even that was in small doses.

What would you (that is a collective you so anyone can answer) recommend for a novice to begin working with Oracle?

Please keep in mind money is painfully tight.
