Oracle External Backup Use OEM

scottjhnOct 10 2012 — edited Oct 13 2012
Oracle 11g on Linux.

The FRA is configured based on ASM diskgroup +FRA. The backups are scheduled to be saved there at 2:00am daily.

Now I want to backup the db to a second location (external USB hard drive), in addition to the FRA. So at the end, I'll get two copies of the backups, one on the FRA diskgroup and another on the external hard drive.

1) Can I use the OEM to achieve the goal (of additional backups to the external drive)?

I saw a line on the OEM's Backup setting: The fast recovery area is the current disk backup location. If you would like to override the disk backup location, specify an existing directory or diskgroup. It sounds like that situation is EITHER/OR, i.e., I may not use the OEM to back the file to both the +FRA and the external hard drive.

2) Will the next day's backup over-write the earlier day's backup? or Just add additional new backup files to the drive (Assume I use the default setting which I believe is the full database backup)?

Thanks
