Oracle DB running on Oracle Linux using VMware/UCS

jkinningerAug 12 2020 — edited Sep 16 2020

I hope this is a relevant location to ask this question but if not please direct me on where I should ask. Currently we are running our Oracle Databases on AIX on the IBM pSeries. In order to improve administration we want to migrate this workload off of that platform and onto Oracle Linux running on VMware using Cisco UCS hardware. One question I have is we are currently licensed for 22 cores under the AIX/pSeries and if we move to Intel/VMware/UCS we would have 44. We plan to purchase an additional 2 cores so we would have a total of 48 cores to run Oracle Databases on. We currently have (3) UCS's with 16 cores which consumes our 48 core licenses. If we darken 8 CPU core's in the BIOS on the UCS could we stand up an additional (3) UCS's? So in the end we would have (6) UCS's each with 8 cores available for use to run our 48 core licensed Oracle Databases.

I have Google searched and can find nothing and when reaching out I have received conflicting information. Just trying to figure out if yeah or nah this is acceptable in today's world. On the AIX/pSeries we are doing this currently but unable to find anything as it relates to today's Intel hardware.
