Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 - Limitations

SoofiAug 2 2016 — edited Aug 2 2016

Dear All,

One of our client have a plan to go for Oracle Standard Edition License.

But as stated by oracle,

Oracle Database Standard Edition 2, will replace both Oracle Database Standard Edition and Standard Edition One from 12.1.0.2 onwards.

So we recommend our client to go for Standard Edition 2 License.

Now I have 2 major Queries regarding the limitations specified in the release document.

1. Limiting the Number of CPU Sockets in a Server

Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 may only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 2 sockets.

Whether Sockets here refer to number of processors? How do I know how many sockets my server actually have?

2. Limit the Number of CPU Threads

Each SE2 database is automatically capped to use a maximum of 16 concurrent user threads

How this will affect my application/database. We have a server which has 6 cores and 2 processors and this server will act as both Application and Database Servers.

How I can see how many threads Oracle db Using in my server?

Whether Oracle will stop my application with any errors while exceeding the maximum threads.
