Oracle database and SAN replication

Hi,
what are peoples views with regards to standby databases using SAN replication?

I am looking at a system where the SAN team are pushing for replication whilst I am proposing simple database primary/standby, (possibly dataguard)

I always understood that SAN replication with open datafiles was not a good idea.
