Oracle converted the data type NUMBER into FLOAT

Hello expert,

After a database in 9i had been upgraded to 10g, Oracle automatically converted the data type (most of them were VIEWS) from NUMBER to FLOAT, the data precision was changed from 0 to 126.

Is it acceptable? I have checked the functionalities, I couldn't see any impact on performance. Can anyone share the experience?
