Hi all.
I have been trying to connect the free trial and beta versions of Benchmark Factory by quest software on my 32bit windows laptop to my linux desktop running oracle....
With the help of people on here I have verified that my Oracle Database should allow inbound connections
1116855
The application I am running on my laptop constantly gives me a ORA 12170 error : TNS connect timeout...
The following steps were taken when installing the client software...
-------------------------
1. Downloaded and installed benchmark factory
2. attempted to connect to oracle database on server machine, but regarldess what was entered i was given a windows error saying Oci.dll not found
3. I downloaded the Oracle Instant client zip for windows 32bit
4. Extracted the files from the instant client download into the bin folder of benchmark factory. (this fixed the oci.dll not found error)
5. When using direct connection I specified the following details:
Username: linux system username
Password: my linux password
Host: 192.168.1.9
Port: 1521
SID: orcl
connect as: sysdba
connect using: Instant client (this was the only option in a drop down)
-------------------------------------------
When I try to connect I get the TNS connect timeout error.
Does anyone have any ideas what I have done wrong or not done?
Any help would be appreciated
Matt
