Oracle Business Rules - High Transaction Volumes

How well does oracle business rules shipped with Oracle AS, deal with high volumes of trasactions?Assume the rules are in place and may change only once a month. The transactions will come via 4000-5000 xml messages per day. Each transaction may have to pass through 51 rules. Some rules have to lookup information in a database to check a valid code, is this realistic?
