Hi All,
We are migrating a homegrown application to Oracle Cloud, which is currently hosted in the on-prem data center. This application uses the Oracle database 12.2.0.1.0 and Oracle Forms 11.1.2.2.0. We aim to upgrade the database to Oracle 23ai and Oracle Forms to the latest version, 12.2.1.19.0 and configure Oracle’s maximum availability architecture (cross-region).
One decision point in the target architecture is the selection of the type of database, ATP-S vs. DBCS. I have reviewed many articles online, but there is no systematic comparison of pricing, scalability and features. I'm looking for your expert comments on the topics I've included below.
- In general, a suggestion for ATP-S vs DBCS
- Should we have a separate database to host the Oracle Forms server or repurpose the application database to host the Forms server?
- Do I need a second ATP-S database if I plan to use the ATP-S database for an application and decide to use a separate database for Oracle forms? Is this how organizations are configuring the Forms server nowadays, or is one ATP-S database sufficient for both the application and Forms server?
- As a second option, should I use a DBCS database, with one PDB for the application and another PDB for the Forms server?
I appreciate your thoughts on this topic.
Thanks,
Vishal
