Oracle archiver stopped and unable to connect as sysdba

DonnyDBAJul 3 2018 — edited Jul 3 2018

Hi all. I'm after some advice please....

The oracle archiver process has stopped due to db_recovery_file_dest_size being 100% full.

I've removed some old archive logs in the FRA but the database is still hung.

I am unable to connect / as sysdba as that hangs also. I face the same situation if I try and connect using RMAN.

I know what I need to do once I get connected to the database to fix this - I just cannot connect !

I am faced with killing the SMON & PMON processes in order to get this down so I can alter the size of the db_recovery_file_dest_size and restart the database? Or is there another method that is not quite as drastic?
