Oracle Application Server Installation

Hi,

I am new to 3 tier technology, till now my application is on developer forms 5 and reports 3 - client server model. Now want to move to 10g.
I have purchased database 10g, developer 10g and my application is running on 9i rel2 database.

Currently Database is on one server, installed forms / reports 10g on my desktop, i dont know where / how to install application server, whether to install on a separate server or on the same desktop...???? where to keep fmx/rdf files? is there any configuration to be done?
