Oracle Apex 5 for rich UI applications

Przemek PaMay 14 2015 — edited May 14 2015

Hi all,

I have PL/SQL development background and now want to move towards web development. I'd like to create commercial applications with advanced UI like udemy.com, virtuagym.com, I want to invest my time in a full stack framework that is good choise for that purpose, that doesn't constrain too much my invention regarding UI. Taking under consideration my experience as Oracle developer I am very serious about Apex, but I don't have web development experience yet to firmly say that it is good for that. That is why I ask for your advise. I listened to the podcast with Joel R. Kallman at http://apex.press/apex/f?p=333:1:0:::::# and he said that Apex is not for everyone and it is good for data-centric applications. Could anyone make it more clear? As almost every web application uses a database, what type of applications Apex is not definetly for regarding web development?

I have an idea and want to create commercial web application for diet/training management with big focus on integration with experts, catering services/individual cooks, food shops/markets that

is very rich regarding UI for the clients (for example diet designer page with lots of drag and drop etc).

Very general description of an idea:

Diet management (plans, dishes creation etc)

Training management (plans, progress tracking etc)

Personal diet/training management or guided by experts

Community of clients, experts (gym instructors, dieters), catering services, food shops etc).

Diet facilitated with catering services and local groceries

Training facilitated with mobile app (training to-do's, progress tracking, timer etc) (training data synchronised).

If you were Oracle Developer and would like to start a business of this kind in the future (maybe long future) would you go for Oracle Apex as a technology for your system witch rich UI or maybe better option would be Javascript and MEAN Stack for example?
