Oracle 9i (release 9.2.0.6.0) Installation

455336Sep 20 2005 — edited Sep 21 2005
FYI - I’m new to the art of Oracle Installation…

Where we are:
Oracle 8i was already resident on the “F” drive (Windows 2K server) with an attached database used for the purpose of converting an imported 8i .dmp file (from another system) to a “.csv” file. There are a large number of records stored in this database…

Oralce 9i (Release 9.2.0.1.0) was recently installed on that same “F” drive for use with another application NOT intended to be used to upgrade the Oracle 8i…

While installing Oracle 9i, the installation seemed to have gotten hung up (for > 3 hours) at the “Configuration Tools” step during the “Oracle Database Configuration Assistant” process. The process was manually stopped. Beyond that point, there was not an opportunity to set a username or password.

At present, we cannot open either version/database…

What needs to be done:

1. Install Oracle 9i Database (Release 9.2.0.6.0) on the server.

2. Upgrade the Oracle 8i (database) to the 9.2.0.6.0 Release while preserving the existing database.

3. What is the best way to accomplish these steps since I cannot open either database?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
