Oracle 8i install problem

Hello,
I had to remove Oracle 9i from my winxp home machine. I would like to install Ora 8i on this machine. When I try to start the install, the hour glass appears for a few moments then nothing happens. I read somewhere that 9i and 8i cannot co-exist on the same box but, I removed the registry entries and the path references. Does anyone know the name of the file or setting that needs to be removed to reload Oracle 8i after a 9i removal?
