oracle 11g xp enterprise cpu utilization high

619788Jan 25 2008 — edited Jan 26 2008
Hi all:

I just installed a trial version of the oracle 11g enterprise database on my XP machine, and I noticed that the CPU utilization is nearly maxed out at 100%.

I can see the following list of programs running in taskmgr.

oracle.exe
java.exe
cmd.exe
perl.exe
emdctl.exe
wuauclt.exe
inetinfo.exe
csrss.exe
emagent.exe
lsass.exe
tbmenu.exe
alg.exe
cisvc.exe
cidaemon.exe

Can anyone tell me what is going on, and how I track it? I assume that somewhere there is an activity log.

I don't generally like my machine doing things that I haven't expressly told it to do...

Second question... I didn't see a price list around anywhere, or anything that tells what the advantage is to having the enterprise edition over the standard edition. How much is it going to cost me when the 30 day evaluation period runs out? Is there a student version?

I am currently a full time student at Cal Poly Pomona soon to graduate as a mechanical engineer. I apparently need oracle database ro run the project management (free) software from Project.Net. The Project being " To Build and Install 25 square miles of solar electric power stations." This will help to save California and eventually the planet from global warming and excess CO2 emissions.

I don't have a very large budget at this moment time.
