Oracle 11g R2 client connecting to Oracle 8i RDBMS?

390534Sep 22 2010 — edited Feb 10 2012
I need to confirm that I will be able to connect an Oracle 11g R2 client (administrator install) to an Oracle 8i DB before i bother trying to setup such a scenario?

I will be on a Windows 2008 R2 Sever using both the 32-bit and 64 bit 11g Clients so that I can use OLE DB from SQL Server SSIS to import data from this Oracle 8i DB into my SQL Server 2008 instance. Need the 32 bit and 64 bit clients since Visual Studio is still 32 bit for BIDS to develop the SSIS and the SQL Agent is 64 bit so I "should" be able to deploy as 64 bit and develop as 32.

I saw another thread that mentioned a patch level required for 8i to let the 10g client connect. Is there such a patch level needed for 11g clients as well?

Thanks,
Miller
