I'm a college student and I am installing Oracle 11g on my laptop. I have been running in to a few road blocks. I try configuring a listener, by the name of LISTENER, under the default port 1521. It is able to do this, but for some reason the service for the listener had not been created or is not being created. I really don't know because this is my first time doing this. I went to services in my Administrative Settings and I see now Oracle listener listed there. I need help diagnosing and solving this issue. You guys could probably use more information but I don't know exactly what info to give you so that I can help you help me. Where do I start?
I have not created a database and I can't because when I run dbca, I get an error when I try to "Configure Database Control for local management". It says, "Configuring database with Database Control requires a listener to be configured in the current oracle home. You need to run Netca to configure a listener before you can proceed. Otherwise you may choose to continue without Database Control configuration."
I thought maybe I had to create a database to get the service for the listener but that's when I got that error when trying to create one. So basically, when I run Netca, after trying to configure the listener it fails at the end of the cmd prompt with, "Listener start failed."
