Oracle 10g on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 using VMWare

752422May 8 2011 — edited May 11 2012
I am trying to install Oracle 10g on a Linux server. The reason is that the system I currently work on is 10g and would like a test environment on my computer.
I Installed the latest version of Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 on VMWare Player.
So far so good.
Now I want to install 10g on the system and have been reading through both Expert Oracle Database Administration 10g and the Quick Installation Guide for 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86
I seem to be stuck now at the situation of getting all the packages loaded that are recommended. Some of the packages are not on the cd so I am starting to wonder whether this is a valid version for the installation.
Seeing as the version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server releast 6.0, I got this with
# cat /etc/redhat-release

So is 10g not supported on this version?
If so should I be downloading a earlier version of Linux?
If so which version and if you can point me in the direction I'd be really happy.
