Oracle 10g installation on Win7

FlammiferFeb 25 2011 — edited Feb 25 2011
Hello,

I am new to Oracle and would like to give a try learning it over mysql, postgresql, et al. But I am having trouble with installation in Windows 7 x64 enviornment. I downloaded 'Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) for Microsoft Windows Vista x64, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Windows 7 x64'. During first step the OS system requirements did not pass, telling me that 6.1 kernel is not supported. Then I configured that, don't remember the exact conf file, and it passed. But on 'Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks' I have the same error (the failed checks):

Checking operating system requirements ...
Expected result: One of 5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0
Actual Result: 6.1
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 10g is not certified on the current operating system.
Recommendation: Make sure you are installing the software on the correct platform.
=======================================================================

Checking service pack requirements ...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
OUI-18001: The operating system 'Windows Vista Version 6.1' is not supported.
Recommendation: Install the recommended Service Pack.

Any advices? Now I'm downloading 11g, but I'd like to test 10g first.

Now, what is not so important, I tried with installation in Ubuntu 10.04, but this OS is not supported as understand. Also Suse 11.2. But for now I'd like to focus on Windows platform.

Thanks.
