Oracle 10g generating a lot of archive files

946366Mar 18 2013 — edited Mar 19 2013
Hello,

I'm not sure I'm at the correct place so sorry in advance.

I'm not a DBA and I would like to have some helps with a recurrent issue we have with our oracle 10 DB.

This DB is installed on an AIX system (IMB P5).
We have a partition for the archives (26 GB).

The DB was configured by an external company, they do compression on older archives files and we think that after a while they are deleted. Except that the files don't have the time to be deleted, they are too many of them.

So we setup a crontab witch delete all files older than 36h every morning at 7.

Sometimes, this is not enough, like this weekend, we don't know why but the DB generated 85 files of +- 200MB in 24 H (16 GB).
One file almost every 4-5 minutes (sometimes 2 minutes).

We have this phenomenon from time to time and we don't know how we could avoid it.

As I said, we are not DBA and Google for such thing is a bit tricky and riskee...

If someone could give me some hints, I would be glad! :)

Thanks in advance,

Greg.
