This question has a little bit of background that I think may
help to answer it. Here it is:
After spending months figuring out how to Uninstall Oracle 7.33
(note to others: It's a y2k issue. Install & uninstall in 1999),
we have moved on to Oracle 8.16 (8i). The uninstall of 7.33
seems to work fine: delete the directories, delete references to
Orawin95 or Orant in the registry, install Ora8i, and one of our
campus programs runs fine.
Unfortunately, another program does not. It gives an ORA-3121
error, which I think I have traced to mean that 7.33 put an
SQL*NET version on that 8.16 will not upgrade, so somehow there
is a conflict in there causing this error (I'm pretty much
guessing at this point).
The Help Desk for the program suggests only "Look for multiple
Oracle folders & check the PATH for the pc as well.." I deleted
all references out of the autoexec.bat of any oracle or oracle-
based program when I uninstalled..
I have also installed the most recent ODBC driver from Oracle >
Downloads.
The closest explanation for this problem I could find was:
452180 , but as it
is over a year old, it isn't quite workable with my situation.
(Where are Patches??)
So, does anyone have any suggestions? I think I have to update
the SQL*Net, but I haven't the slightest on how to do that.
Any advice is very much welcomed.
