ORA-28362: Master key not found

abyssOct 9 2020 — edited Oct 9 2020

Hello everyone,
It seems we are facing an unusual problem.
Database version:
Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition Release 12.1.0.2.0 - 64bit Production 0
PL/SQL Release 12.1.0.2.0 - Production 0
CORE 12.1.0.2.0 Production 0
TNS for Solaris: Version 12.1.0.2.0 - Production 0
NLSRTL Version 12.1.0.2.0 - Production 0

Database has a orawallet set with encryption key on top of it. sqlnet.ora is pointing correctly to the orawallet location which has:
image.pngNow, whenever I try to access a table having encrypted columns, I get:
image.pngWhat is the best way to fix this problem without frying the database?
i have used the back up wallets and startup/shutdown. (Didn't help)
checked sqlnet.ora and even hardcoded the location of wallets replacing $ORACLE_SID (Didn't help)
DIRECTORY=/var/opt/oracle/ORAWLT/$ORACLE_SID/
Server has two Oracle products installed 11.2 and 12.1.
$ORACLE_HOME/$ORACLE_BASE/$ORACLE_SID set properly pointing to 12.1
Please help.
Thanks.
