ORA-24315: Illegal attribute type

Hi,
We are getting the error "ORA-24315: Illegal attribute type" in our application. The connect string is "User Id=user1;Password=password1;Data Source=mydb". Date source has the same name as tns entry in tnsnames.ora of the currenct oracle home (client 10.2).
Can you tell me where to look why this error happens? Do you know any possible causes for this? I'm really clueless....
