ORA-20000 Error in SYS schema

Dear All,
i frequently get this error in the alert log of a production database size of more than 4TB.

Errors in file /unisoft/ora10/admin/unidb/bdump/unidb_j000_29859.trc:
ORA-20000: index "SYS"."WRH$_ACTIVE_SESS_HIST_PK" or partition of such index is in unusable state

my concern is, when such error occurs in the SYS schema for index invalidation, is it safe to rebuild it online? what may be the cause of the error. The database version is 10.1.0.5.0 running in HP Unix.
