ORA-14402: updating partition key column would cause a partition

I am updating the table based on the leading partition key and i got the error message.

ORA-14402: updating partition key column would cause a partition change

UPDATE ORDER
SET CREATION_DATE = TO_DATE ('01/01/2009', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
WHERE ID = 489745
