ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact

Hi,

I have succssfully installed oracle 9i release 2 on linux AS 3.0 update 6. But i receive an ORA - 12547 error when i connect as sysdba. The commands i use are: -

sqlplus /nolog

SQL> conn / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact

i have configured all the kernel parameters + duly chcked the environment settings.

I am totally lost ...
plz advice
