ORA-01722: invalid number

A Discoverer report throws the ORA-01722: invalid number error from the web version of Discoverer but not when run in the Desktop version. Also, in the web, if I use the refresh button to rerun the same report after getting the error, I get a clean run of the report. In the two successful runs the number of rows returned are identical. The problem appears to be related to a single column that returns a SUM. The folder it is pulling data from is a custom build view. If I change the item from SUM to Detail in the report, the error is not thrown. This happens on multiple boxes.
