ORA-01502: index or partition of such index is in unusable state

Hi All,

I am getting this error while executing a select statement. What is the cause for this.
How to resolve it.

Also,

What things can cause the index to become unusable and how can I ensure that the index will not become unusable again (once I rebuild it).


Any help will be appreciated.
