Hi all,

I am a application programmer trying to investigate why our production server is down:...(waiting on assistance from our DBA group)

Can somebody help me? When I try to log in through SQL*plus I get following error:
ora-01089 immediate shutdown in progress - no operations permitted.

1. How do I check the alerts
2. What can I do as part of research to find out whats causing this issue?

Any guidelines will be greatly appreciated.
