operator && cannot be applied to boolean, int

this is my current statement:

while((j > 0) && students[j-1].compareTo(temp))){

i am making a database and i have a list of students and i need to do a sort (trying to do insertion but id take anything). how can i change the && so that i dont get an error. please email me. dvShogun@gmail.com

also, id anybody wants gmail, i have tons of invites that i want to get rid of.
