Opening Standby for read / write - No Switchover / Failover

2758172Oct 26 2015 — edited Oct 29 2015

This is a question, need some clarifications. I have an old application running 9i R2 , a physical standby has been created for the primary.

Can the standby be opened in read / write mode by stopping the recovery and log shipping, I am not talking about fail over / switch over, the

primary needs to be running as it is, the standby needs to be opened , the client needs to test some application configuration against the standby and

once that is done it will be recreated.

I have suggested upgrading to 11g R2 / 12c, but until then there is this need.

I have done failovers and switchovers, but never came across such scenario.

Please share your thoughts.

Matt
