opatch and inventory.xml;

I am trying to apply a psu patch to an OMS home. I am inheriting this installation.
This server has different oraInst.loc files in non-standard locations. So when I run the runInstaller, I use the invptloc flag to tell the installer which to use.
However, when I run opatch, it is looking at the wrong inventory.xml and does not see my oms home listed.
Is there a flag or environment variable that I can set to tell opatch which orainst.loc or which inventory.xml to use?
