ONSCTL stop/start

I have a 2 node RAC, My application had problems and I believe it is causing ONS to have issues. A TOP shows numerous ONS sessions at 99%.

This is a production server and I believe a onsctl stop/start will clear this. Is this something I can do during the day or should i schedule for after hours?
