one form with multiple canvases - choosing between

I need to have one form with multiple versions of the same canvas _ different formats for different uses but essentially the same data.

I am not able to get me head around why I can't use the same data blocks on several canvases and navigate among the canvases. I think I have done this in the past but lost the technigue.
