OLEDB installation

Is the OLE DB installation just for client installations? The server products on both 8.1.7 and 9.2 have old OLE DB versions. If I apply the latest 9.2.0.2 version of OLE DB to my oracle 9.2.0.4 server it screws the module referencing up and I get errors in VB saying 'module specified could not be found.' Both VB and Oracle server is hosted on the same machine. Does this also apply for the latest 8.1.7 OLEDB package and an 8.1.7 server?
