OLAP vs Oracle advanced Analytics option

Justin BleisteinFeb 11 2016 — edited Feb 11 2016

Can anyone tell me the difference between OLAP and Oracle Advanced Analytics? I know the Oracle Advanced Analytics database open gives you Data mining capabilities and support for the R programming statistical programming language.

Does the OLAP option mean an Oracle database which is being used as a full data warehouse? Does this option enable things like dimensions, cubes, etc? If that is the case then what exactly is the advanced analytics option? Is the advanced analytics option just like the bare minumum for data warehouse stuff? Basically if you don't want a separate ful fledge data warehouse that you have to perform ETL operations, etc for you can just enable advanced analytics on the OLTP db and do some analytics there?

Thanks,
