OID: Several questions around unique ID/Username and e-mail fields in OID -

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to FMW. My primary role is ADF and web application development, but I want to learn as much as possible about the entire product and we have a couple of issues at the moment that I'm interested in learning more about.

I'll just stick to one: As of right now our OID username field is populated with the users e-mail address. Normally I wouldn't think this is necessarily an issue, however we have had users request e-mail "fixes" - because they submitted the e-mail with a typo, or worse because they had a change of e-mail address several months into using WebCenter and DIS.

Our problem is that when we try to change the username in OID it really messes things up in WC and DIS for spaces and content they've already worked on or have been granted access to. So my questions are:

Is using the username field to store the users e-mail address standard practice or is this unusual?
If so is it possible to update the e-mail address or username field after a user has already personalized spaces and worked with content without disrupting the integrity of the databases?

Thanks,
S
