OEM vs other monitoring tools

user2522172Jun 19 2014 — edited Jun 19 2014

Hi,

We use OEM (aka OEM ) 11g to monitor our Oracle/Mysql databases. Besides OEM we have some other monitoring tools for network, applications, etc. In total we have around 5 monitoring tools (SCOM, Appman, Naggios, OEM, PRTG) and our boss want to lower the number of monitoring tools. if possible reduce it to one. I understand that but now is the big question which tool are we going to use. Colleagues are pushing Appman (and IT360; a new version of appman) because it can monitor everything they say. I want to stay using OEM because it's not only a monitoring tool for us but also an administration tool: administer tablespaces, schedule backups, dataguard, etc, etc.

Appman (and IT360 I think) is agentless and can't be used for jobs and db administration. We would have to resort to crontab jobs(or schedule tasks in a windows environment) for the jobs we have now currently in OEM.

Do anyone of you have experience with appman/it360? and if so, how does it perform as a database monitoring tool?

regards,

Ivan
