OEM Upgrade and move to a new server

IrondbaJul 31 2015 — edited Aug 3 2015

I am running OEM 12c (version 12.1.0.3) on a Red Hat Linux server.  As I plan an upgrade to OEM version 12.1.0.5, I need to move the application (single OMS) to one server and the OEM Repository database to another server (both will be VM's).  The current OEM is in a development state and when moved to the new VM servers will become production.  I also do know that all the agents I have deployed will have to be upgraded and pointed to the new OEM Application server.

Questions become:

     1. Is it possible AND recommended to complete the version upgrade in place then TAR up the entire install to move to the new server?  This will require a lot of manual changes of server name and IP address within configuration files.  All agent would also have to be re-pointed to the new server.

     2. Would it be better to install the new OEM version (12.1.0.5) on the new VM server with a new OEM Repository database on the other new VM server.  Then, upgrade and re-point all deployed agent to the new OEM application server?  Accumulated metrics, etc. would lost unless there is a way to extract and load the history into the new database.

Looking for experiences, advise and pointers to Oracle documentation.

Thank you,

Gary C.
